Mission

The mission of ULSF is to advance global environmental literacy by supporting the implementation of the Talloires Declaration ten point action plan at all member institutions. The Talloires Declaration is founded on the belief that institutions of higher learning must exercise leadership to promote and reinforce environmental responsibility by integrating the ethical, social, economic, and ecological values of environmentally sustainable development into institutional policies and practices. This leadership begins with each university's mission, curricula, and operations, and radiates through partnership endeavors into the community, the region, and the national and international sphere.

ULSF supports members in their efforts to bring administration, faculty, staff, and students together in a collaborative effort to create a sustainable community within their institution. Our purpose is to effect institutional change that empowers graduates with the values, knowledge, and skills to realize the principles and practices of sustainable development in their professional and civic lives at home, at work, and in their communities.

ULSF provides information and resource referrals, facilitates communication, offers technical assistance, and conducts training workshops that support institutional initiatives to engender environmentally responsible decisionmaking and action through education.
