Sustainable Livelihoods
in Sustainable Communities

The Center promotes approaches to economic and social development which enhance the social, spiritual, and environmental dimensions of life. With a particular concern for environmentally sustainable development and sustainable agriculture, the Center's work helps to define indicators for sustainability based on appropriate ecological practices.

Projects include:
Sustainable Livelihoods -- hosting a series of international round tables on sustainable livelihoods with the Society for International Development, People Centered Development Forum, and others.
Global Summits -- providing leadership for NGO activities during a number of UN sponsored global conferences and preparatory meetings, including the Earth Summit, the Social Summit, Habitat II, and Rio+5.
Sustainable Rural Communities -- conducting a national consultation to build a network for sustainable rural communities in partnership with national and regional development organizations.
Speaking for the Earth -- bringing together indigenous leaders with representatives of development and environmental organizations to articulate, examine, and promote indigenous visions of sustainable development.
